Meanwhile, Rock reportedly did not know that Pinkett Smith suffers from alopecia, which causes hair loss. The Wall Street Journal reported that Rock’s joke wasn’t on the teleprompter nor was it practiced in rehearsal. No one thought there were any issues with the jokes. I mean, these are guys he has worked with for years. Then he went to the writers’ room and spoke to his guys and left. He was taken into a side room and talked to producers and LAPD. “When he got off stage, he was a bit shaken. Rock was “shaken” as he walked off stage to meet with producers and members of the LAPD, the source continued. She has suffered from alopecia since 2018. The fact that the guy continued to be so cool after this assault, he deserves an Oscar.” After hearing Rock’s joke about her baldness, Jada Pinkett Smith rolled her eyes. “How does that read as an apology?” the source added. I’m just here to give out the Oscar,” the source said. Rather, he was saying, “Whoa, whoa, OK, I hear you. Pictures right after the slap show Rock on stage talking to a seated Smith as though trying to make peace, but a source who knows the comedian said he wasn’t attempting an apology. There were people saying, ‘Oh, my God, poor Chris.’ People were wondering if Chris’ face was red because he was flush or because he was hit.” A source who knows Rock said the comedian walked to the front of the stage after Smith had retreated and tried to keep the peace. “Everybody was saying, ‘Holy s-t.’ Even the bartenders. I have to find out what is going on,’ then he walked out. “I heard Chris’ manager, Jason Weinberg, say, ‘I’ve got to deal with the LAPD now. ![]() “There was a sense that something was wrong with Will,” said the insider. NY Post photo composite The joke wasn’t reportedly on the teleprompter or practiced in rehearsals but, among Rock’s people, “no one thought there were any issues with the jokes.” REUTERS Chris Rock met with police but refused to press charges. The insider told how Smith’s longtime publicist Meredith O’Sullivan Wasson, Academy CEO Dawn Hudson, Oscars producer Will Packer and Academy president David Rubin then walked into a private room “very quickly … with great seriousness.” Will Smith’s slap left Oscar producers and other actors scrambling to find out what was going on with the star. “Suddenly everyone froze and the whole place was, like, what the f-k happened?” You heard it so loudly in the theater.”Īnother Hollywood insider told how she watched the chaos from the green room. “We thought it was a bit,” said one Hollywood insider. Though ABC chiefs cut the sound when Smith ran on stage, the audience could clearly hear Smith shouting after he returned to his seat, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f-ing mouth!” Will Smith still hasn’t personally apologized to Chris Rock for Oscars slapīut no one at the Dolby Theatre thought Will Smith actually meant to hit Chris Rock for making a joke about his wife at the Oscars, until Rock said out loud, “Will Smith just smacked the s–t out of me.”

to process the incoming request based on the passed coordinates. When ismap is used, the href attribute of the containing tag must contain the URL of a server application like a cgi or PHP script etc. The server uses the mouse-pointer coordinates to determine which document to deliver back to the browser. Here you simply put your image inside a hyper link and use ismap attribute which makes it special image and when the user clicks some place within the image, the browser passes the coordinates of the mouse pointer along with the URL specified in the tag to the web server. Server-side image maps − This is enabled by the ismap attribute of the tag and requires access to a server and related image-map processing applications.Ĭlient-side image maps − This is created with the usemap attribute of the tag, along with corresponding and tags. There are two ways to create image maps − Such mouse-sensitive images are known as image maps. Once different links are attached to different coordinates, we can click different parts of the image to open target documents. You can create different links on the single image based on different coordinates available on the image. The HTML and XHTML standards provides a feature that lets you embed many different links inside a single image. Next we will see how we can create Mouse-Sensitive Image Links. This was the simplest way of creating hyperlinks using images. This will produce the following result, where you can click on the images to reach to the home page of Tutorials Point. None are essential, but their absence pushes MediaMonkey to third place.įoobar2000's advanced tagging tool makes light work of cleaning up a messy library, with options including batch processing, automatic metadata completion and track numbering, and copying and pasting data between fields. The paid-for Gold version includes a party mode that locks the interface to prevent guests messing with your carefully curated playlist, built-in conversion for TVs and mobile devices, and MP3 encoding for ripped CDs. ![]() It works well, but if you want full manual control you'll need a third-party plugin (opens in new tab).Īs a slightly trimmed-down version of a premium product, MediaMonkey's interface has a little more gloss than its open-source competitors, but at the expense of some features. MediaMonkey arranges your music library in a logical hierarchy, and its File Monitor ensures everything is kept up to date as you add, edit and remove files. You can also tag music during playback, which is a great option that avoids the need to preview snippets of tracks before labelling them with a mood or genre to generate playlists. It identifies tracks with missing metadata and searches for the information online, and like MusicBee, its superb tagging tool lets you tag files using industry-standard formats. MediaMonkey plays and organizes both music and video, and unlike some dual-purpose media players, it does an excellent job of both. It's not as feature-filled as MusicBee, but its thoughtful design and carefully curated feature-set earn this free music player a respectable second place. The app also features some unusual built-in tools, including an alarm clock function that starts playing at a certain time, a wind-down setting that shuts down your PC at the end of a playlist, and a voice remover for making your own karaoke tracks. Some of the highlights are a YouTube extension that lets you build playlists from multiple videos, an add-on for streaming music from SoundCloud (opens in new tab), and an extension for controlling the player remotely (opens in new tab). By contrast, AIMP's plugins include some real gems. (opens in new tab) Most music player extensions are extra visualizations and skins that, although cool, have little practical use. Your AIMP library can be built using files from multiple directories and ripped from CDs, with automatic track numbering and tag filling to help you get it in shape.ĪIMP supports a huge number of formats, and additional encoders are available as user-created add-ons. Like all the best free music players, AIMP makes organizing your songs a breeze – even if your collection is currently a sprawling mess of tracks in different formats and locations, with incomplete or missing metadata. ![]()

The fact that a map allows you to instantly toggle between the overall arc of story and the most finely nuanced details-that alone can take much of the pain out of writing. But I do think that mind mapping is such a protean tool that many people find it a vast improvement over traditional ways of writing. Writing methods are as different as the people doing the writing. I also came to appreciate how easy the map made it to chunk together parts of the story to pitch to the media, bloggers, and for other writing purposes. In map form, it was just so easy to quickly search the map for the time period or event I was interested in, open up that branch and drill down to find the information, document or website I needed. After I finished the book, I looked back and wondered how else I would have kept all those facts straight-all of the dates and times and events, the settings and the emotion and the lessons learned. ![]() And I even used the map to change the flow, to move a chapter that I had in chronological order up to the front of the book to add dramatic interest. But I did enough to help me get started with a lot of depth and key points to put into each chapter. With such an in-depth project, I wasn’t able to do all of my writing in the map. I hyperlinked to web sites that discussed the things they did in the world, to pictures of their families, their employees, the sites of their challenges and victories. I used visual symbols to highlight the most important events. I mapped out the chronology of their lives. I used mind mapping to write a 50,000-word biography of two people. By the time we finished the remodel, the map represented so many different aspects of the project that “knowledge object” seemed like a sufficiently all-encompassing word to signify this one… thing… that was able to contain so much of what went on in the course of the remodel.Īnd it can do the same for writing. It wasn’t just a list of data points: It contained our thoughts and ideas about the project, our emails with the contractor (and with the bank, I might add). The map we created for the bathroom remodel was a living object: It changed and grew as the project unfolded. But also because it points to something larger, more encompassing than a document or file. I like the phrase “knowledge object” because, well… because I think it sounds pretty high-tech and mysterious. And I like the way I can choose certain branches to export if, for instance, I need to create an abstract or want to pitch one aspect of the story to a particular media, it’s much easier for me to pick the chunks of text I want, export just those chunks, and fit them together than to go through a manuscript and cut and paste. I like the way I can export the map and, if I don’t like how the writing flows, I can go back to the map, move the branches and their notes to create a new flow, and re-export it all to see if it works better. ![]() Doing so helps me concentrate on one thing at a time. I like the way you can bring up a notes window and focus your writing on one small part of the map. I noted in the first article how mind maps allow you to chunk your writing. You can even export your map to your iPod. You can export the map as a Microsoft Project file too-if you’re into that kind of thing (we did this for our bathroom remodel so we could keep track of all the dates our contracting was promising us things would be done by). But you can also export is as a PDF, PowerPoint, Web page, text outline, OPML file, or graphic file. Figure 4: How the Notes window looks when the map is exported to Microsoft Word Outline.įor writing projects, it’s usually best to export the map as a Microsoft Word Outline. ![]() ![]() In fact, you can even use them in GarageBand, for a very affordable solution, indeed. For now, if you want Auto Sampler and don’t care about MainStage, you can create those EXS24 instruments in MainStage and then they’re made available to Logic. (For instance, I do production in Logic, and might use this for that, but still play live with Ableton Live and Maschine – not MainStage.)Īnyway, Logic is already one of the more inexpensive DAWs on the market, and App Store upgrades are free, so paying a little extra for Auto Sampler is hardly a huge burden. Two, mobile live sets aren’t the only reason to make samples of outboard gear – you also might want to do this if, say, visiting a friend’s studio and playing with a vintage synth, or taking your production suite on the road. One, it assumes people only want to play live with MainStage, and not just play live with Logic. That seems a reasonable use case, but it makes two assumptions about users that I don’t agree with. As near as I can understand, Apple chose to target MainStage users as the ones who would want to take hardware with them without lugging gear. The weird thing about all of this is that Auto Sampler is only available in MainStage – and not in Logic. This basic interface still seems to satisfy what most people would do with Auto Sampler, though if there are tools you miss from other Redmatica offerings, I’d love to hear about it. I don’t think you have quite the range of functionality originally available from Redmatica, but MainStage is fairly cheap, and this is almost reason enough to use Logic, let alone pony up a little more cash for the feature. Set a range, choose how you want samples to be triggered and looped, or set one-shots. Then, you get the lovely interface at top. Inside the Audio FX section of that Channel Strip, you instantiate it just as you would another effect it’s under the MainStage submenu > Utility > Auto Sampler. It’s a MainStage plug-in, meaning it acts as an effect device that appears only inside the MainStage Channel Strip. ![]() You might have trouble even finding Auto Sampler. Not that Apple has exactly advertised it – too bad, given a feature that magically transforms hardware into software is kind of cool. And it has accordingly earned a loyal following from a lot of gigging artists.īut whether you want MainStage or not, you might consider paying for it just to get this single feature. It has some really powerful features for setting up set lists with software instruments and effects, and allowing users to focus on playing rather than squint at a computer. MainStage itself is a nice tool, one that I think doesn’t get enough attention from the music tech world. Apple didn’t focus on that new feature – you would have missed it apart from the release notes – but it has quickly become buzzed about in forums among enthusiasts, so it obviously matters to someone. The accompanying MainStage 3.1 adds Redmatica’s tech for automatically making sample instruments. Now, with Logic Pro X 10.1, that changes. It was unclear just what Apple intended to do with the tech. (See reporting from the time.) You could continue to use existing versions, of course, but without further support. In the form of the products Keymap Pro, AutoSample, ProManager, and GBSammpleManager, they sucked in sounds of outboard gear directly to sample instruments you can use.Īll that ended when Apple bought the developer in 2012 and it immediately closed shop, leaving users in the cold. Redmatica’s tools made all of that happen more or less automatically. Anyone who’s ever built samples of hardware knows the process can be fairly time-consuming: you trigger notes one at a time, record audio from them, and map that audio to the keyboard. Italian developer Redmatica had a host of technologies for transforming hardware instruments into software samples, all built around Apple’s EXS24 sampler. You need the latest MainStage to access it, but it allows you to easily create sampled software versions of external instruments. Hidden in last month’s update to Logic and MainStage is a feature a lot of sampler lovers have been missing. ![]() And you cannot cut the pie in that plate, it'll scratch and rust. But they're not great for pies that need to be baked for long periods of time, because they're such great heat conductors they can end up burning the bottom of the crust if you're baking for a long period of time. (Which I've used for recipes like my Sister Schubert Copycat Rolls) They're great for pies that need their crust blind-baked or for pies that have just a bottom crust. They don't shatter like glass pie dishes when moved into a fridge or freezer to cool down quickly and can be used under the broiler, which is perfect for lemon meringue pie! They're so pretty and present very well on the table, and they also have great heat-diffusion and retention, making for well-baked pie. It's also very affordable! The only downside is that it cannot go from oven to freezer too quickly, as tempered glass can shatter from extreme temperature fluctuations.Ĭeramic Plates (like the Emile Henry pie dish used in my photos) are my personal favorite. I use them all the time! Glass is a slow heat-conductor, so it evenly and thoroughly bakes bottom pie crusts. Glass Pie Plates (like this Pyrex Pie Dish) are common in the home baker's arsenal.
